Expanded role training

Are you familiar with nursing practice in an expanded role?

In many remote regions of Quebec, particularly within Indigenous communities, access to healthcare remains limited, and specialists are scarce. The proposed solution: EXPANDED ROLE NURSES!

In dispensaries, nurses provide comprehensive patient care: ASSESSMENT, SCREENING, TREATMENT, EDUCATION, PREVENTION. They are involved in all specialties, from neurological disorders to dermatology, including obstetrics and ophthalmology!

So, how can you prepare for this type of practice? Living for several weeks within an Indigenous community? Enjoying the exploration of Quebec’s spectacular regions while ensuring your safety, both personally and professionally?

Are you ready to take the leap?

Here are the steps to follow and the details of your preparation to access the expanded role.

A link to the ENA platform will be sent to you, granting access to more than 14 hours of mandatory online training.

Good news, most of these courses are accredited and highly relevant!

You will then join your instructor, who has extensive hands-on experience working in dispensaries, for a 4-week classroom training session in Laval.
During this month, daily theoretical reviews will be conducted, and practical workshops and role-playing exercises will allow you to apply your learning.
Examples include: suturing, full ear exams, appendicitis screening tests, neurological exams, etc.

During this month, you will have the opportunity to participate in at least two role-playing scenarios, one of which will be in English.
The groups are very small and limited in number, allowing each participant the time to learn and ask any questions they may have.
You will also be prepared for the cultures you will integrate into afterward.
Packing and essential preparations will be carefully addressed.

Once the month of training is complete, you will be able to apply for your first assignment!
However, our support doesn’t end there. You will arrive in the Grand Nord five days before your first assignment begins to receive orientation and training with the team. This will allow you to begin your expanded role practice in a gradual manner, with personalized support.

You will also receive a final list of online training courses to continue your learning at your own pace, as expanded role work is a continuous learning experience!

So, are you ready to join the next cohort starting soon?

Working in the North can raise concerns, but SOS Nurse ensures you’re well-prepared for a smooth and positive experience.

For everything else, all you need is a sense of adventure, a desire to travel, and the drive to push your professional practice beyond what you can imagine.

I’m interested!
